FAQ

Does OmniScan need an internet connection?

No. OmniScan works 100% offline. No internet connection is required for scanning, saving, or browsing your scan history. The app uses on-device machine learning (Google ML Kit) to detect QR codes and barcodes directly on your phone.

Is my scan data uploaded to the cloud?

Never. All scanned data is stored locally on your device in a SQLite database. There is no cloud sync, no server-side backup, and no account required. Your scan data never leaves your phone unless you manually copy or export it yourself.

What happens to my scan history if I uninstall the app?

Since all data is stored locally, uninstalling the app will permanently delete all scan history. There is no cloud backup. We recommend using the copy or export features to back up important scan data before uninstalling.

How does duplicate scanning work?

OmniScan detects when you scan the same code twice and lets you choose how to handle it via Settings > On Duplicate Scan:

ModeBehavior
Ask each timePrompts you once per session, then remembers your choice
SkipSilently ignores duplicates with a quick auto-dismissing banner
CountTallies repeats with a ×N badge on the original entry
Add as newKeeps every scan as a separate record

Can I scan multiple codes in a row without going back to the history screen?

Yes. The Scan Session feature accumulates results in a live list with a line counter in the app bar. You can keep scanning continuously, then use Copy to copy all codes at once, Clear One to remove the most recent scan, or Clear All to wipe the session (history is always preserved separately).

Can I select and delete multiple scans from history?

Yes. In the history view, Batch Select mode lets you pick individual items or tap Select All at once. You can then Copy the selected codes to the clipboard or Delete them with a confirmation dialog.

Does OmniScan collect analytics or track usage?

No. There is zero analytics, zero data collection, and zero tracking. Camera access is used solely for scanning — no video or image data is recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Which platforms is OmniScan available on?

OmniScan is available on iOS and Android. It is built with the Flutter framework and uses Google ML Kit for on-device barcode/QR detection.

How do I turn off the scan beep sound?

Go to Settings > Scan > Scan Sound and toggle the beep off. The scan confirmation sound is entirely optional.
